Annie Leibovitz assignment 4

Annie Lebovitz is one of the most famouse photographers at the moment. she offten takes photos for vougue magazine. she has photographed anyone who is anyone such as John Lennon, queen elizabeth II, Keira Knightley and Bill Gates.

i have chosen Leibovitz as my independant reasearch because she is a very good photographer aqnd i find her work interesting and enspiring. i find it very easy to talk about her work as i havent found one photo that i dont like yet.

i think that hedgcoe and speers work rather boring all appart from speers birthday party but there is not alot to talk about in them. perous work is good but i just personally dont like it as much as leibovitz's work.

depth of field assignment 3

depth of field: the 'depth of field' is how far back the picture goes, the amount of distance seen between the nearest and furthest object in the picture. http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/fototech/htmls/depth.html, this explaind what it means in detail with good and bad examples of it.
this picture whas taken by 'Annie Leibovitz' one of the most well known female photographers in the business at the moment.
this is a photo is part of her portraits of celebrates. im not sure who it is in this picture because it didnt say anywhere and i couldnt see his face well enough.
this picture uses lots of light on the water and femaile models to make them look vety pail. although the man is in the back of the picture, the fact that he is the only man in this picture and that her is the inly fully dressed person in this picture makes him stand out and the focal point of the picture. the depth of field in this photo is very big and deep, it goes all the way from the closest lady at the front to the horisen/ land in the very back of the picture.
i like this picture because its interesting, although there is alot going on it doesnt look cluttered or need simplifying.

a simply slide show explaining what depth of feild is, (some of the writing is hard to see)

lighting assignment 3

lighting: lighting is simply the way the photographer has used or manipulated light to improve or create an effect on a photo. http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/use-of-light-in-photography/ this explains in detail about how lighting is used in photography.

this is a photo taken by 'Annie Leibovitz'. it is a portrate picture of 'Angelina Jolie'. 'Annie Leibovitz' is very famouse for photographing anyone who is famouse, even the queen. she offten photographs celebrates in costume as characters from movies such as alice in wonderland.
this is part of a group of portrate photos of famouse people, other people in this group of photographs consist of 'iggy pop' and 'Arnold Schwarzenegger'.
this image has used light very well. the photographer has angled it to make the models face very light compared to her hair and top, it has also made her tattoos stand out. the fact that this photo is in black and white give good contrast between the colours.
i like this picture alot, it is a pleasing picture to the eye, and even though it is close up, she still , manages to keep the modles face and body in focus and with the light give the models skin an even tone.

focal point assignment 3

focal point: a 'focal point' is the part of the photo that grabs you eye first or the object that the photographer wants to stand out from the rest of the photo. http://www.focalpointphoto.co.uk/ a simple explination of what a focal point is.
John Hedgecoe (b.1936) is one of Britain's leading portrait photographers. He is also the world's best-selling writer on practical photography, having sold some 9 million books worldwide. This display is a part of a widespread showing of Hedgecoe's work to celebrate the publication of his book Portraits. It presents a selection of 23 photographs (including several in colour which are not in the book), on public display for the first time.
i think this is a simple set up in the photo. just in a room maybe in either the models or photographers house, with some lighting on her face and the wall behind her.
in this picture i thin the focal point is simply the woman in the picture, it is the first thing i see in the picture. however it could also be the acrobatic woman on the wall in the background, there for it is a bad picture for focal points because it doesnt have one for sure focal point in it.
personal don't like this picture because its rather boring and not very original.
i generally dont like john hedgcoe's wrk because i find it very dated and not very inspiring.

composition assignment 3

composition: composition is the arrangemtent of shapes/things in the image. there possition relationship to one another and to the image as a whole.
http://www.slideshare.net/fotologic/what-is-composition shows a slideshow explaining in depth what composition is.

This picture was taken by the photographer Perou, it is an image of Eminem (the rapper/singer). this is part of lots of photos taken by Perou of famouse celebs. this picture looks like it was taken in a studi, with a light either side of eminem. the reason i know this is because of the shadows on the floor she the direction of the light.i think the reason this picture has nothing going on in the background is so that all of your attention is on Eminem not anything else. this picture is very agressive but affective. it looks asif it has a story behind it, i makes you think, 'why is he running with guns??' 'why has he got guns in the first place'. i like this photo, its not perticualy interesting or origenal, but the story of the picture grabs your attention.
this picture is 'composed' of one character in the center of the screen and two, modern guns. the character is also in army gear and hyas ammo rapped around his body.

a slide that explains what composition is in detail.

assignment 2

  •  Factual:  This picture is taken by Vee Speers as part of her 'The Birthday Party' album. Vee Speers was  born in Australia and studied at Queensland collage of Art. Her work has been widely exhibited and has been seen in publications including The Sunday Times, Harpers & Queen, Arena, Espuire and Black & White Magazine.
  • context:  this is part of 'The Birthday Party' series, by Vee Speers.
  • technical:  i think this picture was taken in a simple white walled studio, with no special effects. i dont think that there are any specific parts that have be lightened or darkened.
  • aesthetic:  I like this picture because it is a very effective picture, as in it almost moves you, and it portrays this child as a child of war, without covering him in blood ect.although there is not a strong contrast of colours the wahed out dull colours work well in this image.
